Normally this is a very strange thing for someone to do but for a Waterloo mathie pink is the colour to be. From the normal pink ties that are given out ever year to the giant pink tie we hang on our math building’s wall.

So I, like a bunch of other people who do so every year, decided to die my hair pink. Partially because of peer pressure, partially because of the total awesomeness.

The first try was with a much lighter pink, roughly how light it is right now, but that washed out without leaving any colour whatsoever. Then I had to try a darker pink which I wasn’t really a fan of at first. It was more vibrant and not the bubblegum pink I wanted in the first place. On our tie which is a gradient this year it is on the very tip of the darkest end.

The pink has done about half the dye’s life cycle now and it’s still just as soft as it was before for anyone who is worried ;). It should be gone by the end of next week and then I’ll just be the 6’6″ blond guy instead of the 6’6″ guy with pink hair.

Today is pi day. March 14th. The 14th day of the third month. 3.14. You should get it by now. There will be pie given out today at the MC for this occasion, eat as much as you can to show your loyalty to the great pi. However, don’t eat some pumpkin pie, it’s the only kind I find tolerable. I just can’t eat fruits with my pastries, they are all squishy and gooey and it feels so unnatural. Like artsies doing math.

It is this day that we must honour one of our most valuable number. It stands next to e and root(2) and hold its own.

A limerick in homage of pi: (from limerickdb)

If a pendulum’s swinging quite free
Then it’s always a marvel to me
That each tick plus each tock
Of the grandfather clock
Is 2 pi root L over g.
